We are on the subject of drugs today following Jean telling us about that really excellent IMF resource now available to us.
I had been waiting for a drug recall or something to send this one but still no sign of one, so I thought I’d go ahead and share now.
Basically, what I will describe here is how to substitute one drug for another in a selection of or all patients.  I will use as an example a call from the Pharmacy to say Centyl K is no longer available what will I give instead.  Bendroflumethiazide 2.5mg will do fine.  We can use the system to change everyone from Centryl K to Bendroflumethiazide if you want.
To do this go to
My Control Panel==>Drugs==> and along the top click on “Drug Substitution”
Put the drug you want replaced in the Select Drug to Substitute field and in the Substitute Drug For field put in the drug you want to replace it with.
Click Save (or update if you want to modify a previous one).
This adds this substitution to the screen.  Nothing has happened yet until you give a further command.  You can keep multiple substitutions active here.
[Graphical user interface, application, Word  Description automatically generated]

Now to run it you click on the Substitute button at the bottom right.  This gives us another dialogue box showing which patients are on Centyl K, all patients are selected by default and if you click the particular patients, you can select or unselect individual patients.  In our example below  I have selected Drug Test but not John Wayne.

[Graphical user interface, application, Word  Description automatically generated]

Click On Save.  The Centyl K has now been substituted in the file – obviously not any previously issued prescriptions, just in the “to print” tab, Bendroflumethiazide has replaced Centyl K.
Not a feature you will use very often but when needed it could be very useful.
It strikes me there could be a role here for all those HRT products that come and go on the market.  You could set up various substitution rules for one patch versus anther etc.  but my knowledge of HRT isn’t sufficient, I’m afraid, to make specific suggestions.  Maybe someone with an interest in that area could post suggestions?
