*IMPORTANT *IMO UPDATE ON THE ACCELERATED COVID BOOSTER PROGRAMME

17th December 2021

KEY POINTS*

  • GPs have responded overwhelmingly to the call to run an Accelerated
Covid Booster Programme over the next few weeks
  • The vast majority of calls from GPVaccines have now been made to
practices with a small number of call backs taking place today where
    those practices did not respond
  • Significant levels of orders have been placed and deliveries are
already underway and scheduled until Thursday 23^rd December
  • Given the level of stock required by the overall booster programme
including General Practice and the necessity to distribute same in
short order in the next week there will be blended stock of the two
MRNA Vaccines (Pfizer and Moderna) dispatched to the majority of
practices so please note the recommendations in this regard below.

**

VACCINES TO BE USED IN BOOSTER PROGRAMME

For all practices receiving deliveries you will receive the total doses
ordered with a mix of the two recommended MRNA Vaccines – Pfizer and
Moderna. All vaccines will have a 30 day shelf life.  It is not possible
to order specific quantities of specific vaccines at this point.

  • Practices receiving deliveries up to and including Saturday 18^th
December will receive Pfizer as this has already been uploaded into
    the system
  • Practices who are receiving less than 200 doses will only receive
Pfizer as Moderna cannot be packed down to less than 200 doses.

GPs and their teams should pay particular attention to the following:

Regardless of vaccine used in primary dose the following applies:

Moderna

  • To be used for Boosters for *Patients aged 30 year and over *
  • The vaccine is contained in a multidose clear glass vial and NO
    DILUTION
    is required
  • The dose for *Booster is 0.25mL and therefore each vial will contain
    *20 doses.

Pfizer

  • Practices should ensure that sufficient Pfizer is maintained to be
used for Boosters for PATIENTS UNDER 30 YEARS OF AGE.
  • No change to dosage or dilution requirements.

**

IMPACT ON OPERATION OF VACCINE CLINICS

There will be minimal impact on the operation of GP Vaccine Clinics but
please be mindful of the following:

  • As GPs move through the patient list in line with NIAC
prioritisation it is critical that the supplies of Moderna are used
first for all patients aged 30 years and over so as to ensure you
have sufficient stock of Pfizer for patients under 30 years of age.
  • While, you do not need to run separate Moderna/Pfizer Clinics you
must ensure that the correct vaccine is administered to the patient
in line with your supply and the absolute requirement to administer
Moderna to all patients 30 years of age and over.
  • Ensure when making the data returns that the correct vaccine/batch
number is indicated on your returns.
  • Once you have utilised your Moderna Stock you may administer Pfizer
    to any cohort of patients.

GPs and teams should be aware that patients cannot access particular
vaccines on request and the Mass Vaccination Clinics and Pharmacies will
be operating under the same guidelines.

Many GPs will not have used Moderna in the vaccine programme to date and
NIO require that at all vaccinators access HSEland training and review
all clinical guidelines already available on the NIO website, so they
are fully aware of how to use the vaccine and which groups it can be
used on.

SUBMITTING STCS FOR COVID REFERRALS

Recognising the significant burden on administration staff it has been
agreed that while you are to continue to do COVID Assessments and Test
Referrals as they are required the two week deadline for submitting
claims is lifted or the period of this accelerated vaccine programme.
This applies to these claims only.

DATA RETURNS

GPs and their teams are asked to ensure that the data returns for COVID
BOOSTER VACCINATIONS are made in as near “real” time as possible so as
to ensure effective monitoring of the number of patients boosted
nationally and to mitigate against duplicate appointments being offered.

DELIVERIES

A number of practices are scheduled to receive deliveries on Saturday 18
December. Practices receiving these deliveries will get a call
approximately 1 hour from delivery to facilitate attendance at the GP
premises.

On all occasions, separate deliveries will be made for vaccines and
consumables but on same day.

**

REINSTATEMENT OF €10 ADMINISTRATION FEE

The reinstatement of the €10 administration fee is applicable to the
accelerated booster programme effective  from Wednesday 15^th December.
A detailed circular will issue in due course.

WINTER SUPPORT GRANT 2021/22

The Winter Support Grant is NOT a Vaccination Grant but is targeted to
those practices participating in this programme.  The Grant, as was the
case last year, is to make a contribution to GPs for the additional and
ongoing expenses associated with delivery of care over the winter months.

In respect of the Winter Grant please note the following:

  • This will apply to all GMS doctors in a practice. If just one doctor
is down for the purposes of vaccination deliveries etc. it is not
necessary for the other GMS doctors within the practice
to register or order vaccines also as it is accepted that the
    practice is vaccinating. **
  • Once the practice has ordered under this accelerated booster
programme and is receiving deliveries between Thursday 16^th and
December 23^rd they will be considered eligible.
  • As indicated above details on payment dates and certification will
    be issued shortly.

**

IMO SUPPORT

The IMO will be on hand throughout this accelerated vaccine programme to
assist you in any way we can.

*PLEASE NOTE THE IMO TEAM WILL BE ON HAND THIS WEEKEND TO RESPOND TO
EMAIL QUERIES ON THIS PROGRAMME – PLEASE EMAIL *gpissues@imo.ie
mailto:gpissues@imo.ie

Thank you, we recognise the challenges and we hope the above information
and supports will be of assistance.

Sincerely,

IMO Team

IMPORTANT IMO UPDATE ON THE ACCELERATED COVID BOOSTER PROGRAMME

17th December 2021

KEY POINTS

  • GPs have responded overwhelmingly to the call to run an Accelerated Covid Booster Programme over the next few weeks
  • The vast majority of calls from GPVaccines have now been made to practices with a small number of call backs taking place today where those practices did not respond
  • Significant levels of orders have been placed and deliveries are already underway and scheduled until Thursday 23rd December
  • Given the level of stock required by the overall booster programme including General Practice and the necessity to distribute same in short order in the next week there will be blended stock of the two MRNA Vaccines (Pfizer and Moderna) dispatched to the majority of practices so please note the recommendations in this regard below.

VACCINES TO BE USED IN BOOSTER PROGRAMME

For all practices receiving deliveries you will receive the total doses ordered with a mix of the two recommended MRNA Vaccines – Pfizer and Moderna. All vaccines will have a 30 day shelf life.  It is not possible to order specific quantities of specific vaccines at this point.

  • Practices receiving deliveries up to and including Saturday 18th December will receive Pfizer as this has already been uploaded into the system
  • Practices who are receiving less than 200 doses will only receive Pfizer as Moderna cannot be packed down to less than 200 doses.

GPs and their teams should pay particular attention to the following:

Regardless of vaccine used in primary dose the following applies:

Moderna

  • To be used for Boosters for Patients aged 30 year and over
  • The vaccine is contained in a multidose clear glass vial and NO DILUTION is required
  • The dose for Booster is 0.25mL and therefore each vial will contain 20 doses.

Pfizer

  • Practices should ensure that sufficient Pfizer is maintained to be used for Boosters for PATIENTS UNDER 30 YEARS OF AGE.
  • No change to dosage or dilution requirements.

IMPACT ON OPERATION OF VACCINE CLINICS

There will be minimal impact on the operation of GP Vaccine Clinics but please be mindful of the following:

  • As GPs move through the patient list in line with NIAC prioritisation it is critical that the supplies of Moderna are used first for all patients aged 30 years and over so as to ensure you have sufficient stock of Pfizer for patients  under 30 years of age.
  • While, you do not need to run separate Moderna/Pfizer Clinics you must ensure that the correct vaccine is administered to the patient in line with your supply and the absolute requirement to administer Moderna to all patients 30 years of age and over.
  • Ensure when making the data returns that the correct vaccine/batch number is indicated on your returns.
  • Once you have utilised your Moderna Stock you may administer Pfizer to any cohort of patients.

GPs and teams should be aware that patients cannot access particular vaccines on request and the Mass Vaccination Clinics and Pharmacies will be operating under the same guidelines.

Many GPs will not have used Moderna in the vaccine programme to date and NIO require that at all vaccinators access HSEland training and review all clinical guidelines already available on the NIO website, so they are fully aware of how to use the vaccine and which groups it can be used on.

All vaccines will have a 30 day shelf life. It is not possible to order specific quantities of specific vaccines at this point. * Practices receiving deliveries up to and including Saturday 18th December will receive Pfizer as this has already been uploaded into the system * Practices who are receiving less than 200 doses will only receive Pfizer as Moderna cannot be packed down to less than 200 doses. GPs and their teams should pay particular attention to the following: Regardless of vaccine used in primary dose the following applies: Moderna * To be used for Boosters for Patients aged 30 year and over * The vaccine is contained in a multidose clear glass vial and NO DILUTION is required * The dose for Booster is 0.25mL and therefore each vial will contain 20 doses. Pfizer * Practices should ensure that sufficient Pfizer is maintained to be used for Boosters for PATIENTS UNDER 30 YEARS OF AGE. * No change to dosage or dilution requirements. IMPACT ON OPERATION OF VACCINE CLINICS There will be minimal impact on the operation of GP Vaccine Clinics but please be mindful of the following: * As GPs move through the patient list in line with NIAC prioritisation it is critical that the supplies of Moderna are used first for all patients aged 30 years and over so as to ensure you have sufficient stock of Pfizer for patients under 30 years of age. * While, you do not need to run separate Moderna/Pfizer Clinics you must ensure that the correct vaccine is administered to the patient in line with your supply and the absolute requirement to administer Moderna to all patients 30 years of age and over. * Ensure when making the data returns that the correct vaccine/batch number is indicated on your returns. * Once you have utilised your Moderna Stock you may administer Pfizer to any cohort of patients. The clinical guidelines are here: https://www.hse.ie/eng/health/immunisation/hcpinfo/covid19vaccineinfo4hps/clinicalguidance.pdf<http://imo.newsweaver.com/memberadvisory/4zov889v5vo1p2re21te9i/external?email=true&a=6&p=60977651&t=32545216> HSEland: The Health Service’s eLearning and development portal | HSeLanD<http://imo.newsweaver.com/memberadvisory/hvzro8dudwv1p2re21te9i/external?email=true&a=6&p=60977651&t=32545216> Additional resources Spikevax® (COVID‐19 Vaccine Moderna) - HSE.ie<http://imo.newsweaver.com/memberadvisory/10huhs4vksm1p2re21te9i/external?email=true&a=6&p=60977651&t=32545216> All can be accessed from www.immunisation.ie<http://imo.newsweaver.com/memberadvisory/1ucvew40rz21p2re21te9i/external?email=true&a=6&p=60977651&t=32545216> SUBMITTING STCS FOR COVID REFERRALS Recognising the significant burden on administration staff it has been agreed that while you are to continue to do COVID Assessments and Test Referrals as they are required the two week deadline for submitting claims is lifted or the period of this accelerated vaccine programme. This applies to these claims only. DATA RETURNS GPs and their teams are asked to ensure that the data returns for COVID BOOSTER VACCINATIONS are made in as near “real” time as possible so as to ensure effective monitoring of the number of patients boosted nationally and to mitigate against duplicate appointments being offered. DELIVERIES A number of practices are scheduled to receive deliveries on Saturday 18 December. Practices receiving these deliveries will get a call approximately 1 hour from delivery to facilitate attendance at the GP premises. On all occasions, separate deliveries will be made for vaccines and consumables but on same day. REINSTATEMENT OF €10 ADMINISTRATION FEE The reinstatement of the €10 administration fee is applicable to the accelerated booster programme effective from Wednesday 15th December. A detailed circular will issue in due course. WINTER SUPPORT GRANT 2021/22 The Winter Support Grant is NOT a Vaccination Grant but is targeted to those practices participating in this programme. The Grant, as was the case last year, is to make a contribution to GPs for the additional and ongoing expenses associated with delivery of care over the winter months. In respect of the Winter Grant please note the following: * This will apply to all GMS doctors in a practice. If just one doctor is down for the purposes of vaccination deliveries etc. it is not necessary for the other GMS doctors within the practice to register or order vaccines also as it is accepted that the practice is vaccinating. * Once the practice has ordered under this accelerated booster programme and is receiving deliveries between Thursday 16th and December 23rd they will be considered eligible. * As indicated above details on payment dates and certification will be issued shortly. IMO SUPPORT The IMO will be on hand throughout this accelerated vaccine programme to assist you in any way we can. PLEASE NOTE THE IMO TEAM WILL BE ON HAND THIS WEEKEND TO RESPOND TO EMAIL QUERIES ON THIS PROGRAMME – PLEASE EMAIL gpissues@imo.ie<mailto:gpissues@imo.ie> Thank you, we recognise the challenges and we hope the above information and supports will be of assistance.
