Ransomware attack on HSE

Hi All
I’m sure you have been following closely the news about the HSE ransomware attack and it’s effects on service provision as well as the various IMO/ICGP email updates. The most recent email advice is to be found here also-
IMO/ICGP emailhttps://imo.newsweaver.com/memberadvisory/mbkcs3v8dg31f7by9jddh6?email=true&lang=en
https://imo.newsweaver.com/memberadvisory/mbkcs3v8dg31f7by9jddh6?email=true&lang=en

It means we will not be able to provide much in the way of routine GP care this week and certainly need to limit investigations ordered and referrals to acute/urgent only.

We need to think about how to manage this locally
-probably most bloods this week need to be cancelled excepting anything deemed urgent or essential for care (or INR etc)
-we will not have ability to arrange routine radiology
-we will most likely not have ability to access results from late last week
-decide how to keep track of non urgent referrals that will need to be arranged when things are back online

We are working on updating practice websites with this information for patients too.

As always be careful with any emails or links that look suspicious!

Kind regards
Jean

Just to add that we can of course continue with much of our core GP work such as mental health issues, many gynae issues, and all acute illnesses/injuries as normal.

And also if you are expecting covid vaccines this week they are due to go ahead as planned but the contacts for your relationship manager have changed as per this email from IMO-
New HSE contact details for Covid Vaccineshttps://imo.newsweaver.com/memberadvisory/6g00445cf821f7by9jddh6?email=true&lang=en

GPs have done a great job adapting to changes this year so this is just one more and hopefully will be resolved soon.

Take care.

Morning all, this is what we are doing:

It depends a little on the hospital labs. I suggest maybe checking your destination lab locally. I rang SJH lab yesterday. Their IT system is not part of the HSE and is unaffected. Therefore I decided not to cancel patients incoming today for blood tests. However going forward I think we will need to hold back a bit and only refer 'important' stuff. And obviously healthlink is down so incoming stuff affected. However, the lab guy I spoke to said they would phone urgent stuff, as per usual.

I have turned off my GMS checker (Health One).

I don't think I will use the i-certs for DEASP. They seem safe for now, but that might change.

I agree re email, links and attachments.

Interesting that SJH lab unaffected and I heard there from Kandan that Drogheda practices lab tests managed by Biomnis also outside HSE intranet.

The issue however remains that results cannot be returned until Healthlink re-established.
This could potentially cause misses in returns.

I have no visibility of HSE plan but they may utilise lab capacity outside HSE for a period to facilitate urgent testing?
If so these unaffected labs may have increased workload and require none urgent work to be deferred.

I would advise all practices to reduce lab and radiology refs, as advised nationally, until issues are resolved.

I agree Gavin.

Even that the labs revert to paper, that is still an awful lot of extra scanning , so the less we send out, the less we get back!

I agree Gavin. Even that the labs revert to paper, that is still an awful lot of extra scanning , so the less we send out, the less we get back! I think is reasonable to stop all referrals and procedures linked to Healthlink for now until situation resolves. Unfortunately someone needing a prompt result from bloods will have to be sorted in Hospital hence increasing work load for hospital staff.
I think we don’t have the infrastructure to deal with urgent matters on-site anyway

Here’s a link for walk-in COVID testings
