Just getting straw pole regarding charging for referrals

There seems to be an increase in contacts for onward referrals following investigation
Sometimes I have seen the patients previously, sometimes following hospital assessment

Do people charge for these telephone follow ups and referrals? (private patients)

Gavin

Hi Gavin,
We charge for consultation and then we refer approximately ( if required). Patients are charged for follow up fees( be it telephone call or face to face). I don’t charge for referral alone.

Me too, I charge for  the consultation needed around the referral since it is difficult to do a good referral without some type of patient encounter. And of course the referral may not be needed / there may be something that I can do while the pt is waiting.

Also round ‘kindly do these bloods’ . I saw Ilona talking about it on Twitter, with a respectful contribution by Alan Irvine, the derm consultant. I know some people get a bit hot and bothered and ‘I’m not his intern’. But in my opinion it makes sense to take the patient back where possible and as above it is reasonable to charge for one’s time in this (not just a phlebotomy fee.)
