Related organisations is the database that is used for external contacts when writing a letter.
[A computer screen shot of a computer screen Description automatically generated]
You can search for existing entries or add new ones which is always a good idea, to build up your database. Unfortunately, this data base is unique to each site, so we can’t create a single central one to distribute to everyone. Also, you can do very little here other than pick an existing entry or add a new one.
You can however get at this database from the Control Panel which allows you do more such as remove old entries or edit existing ones.
Go to My Control Panel==>Admin Console and click on related organisations.

In here you get this screen

1: You can have sub groups but for most people I would recommend just use All.
2: In this area you can create new entries
3: Save
Alternatively, you can edit existing entries by either clicking the down arrow in the organisation tab to find an entry or use the search feature.

1: Find the entry you want to edit
2: Update the details
3: Click Update
Note also
4: Tick this box to make the entry a third party for the accounts section
5: If you want to remove an entry untick active and it removes the entry

Thanks for this Michael. It may be me, but I find the external contact thing clunky and slow but you need it in order for your outbound letter to have any kind of useful name in ‘ Letters’.
So anything that improves it is welcome.

On the contrary Eric I love to be contradicted, there are always different ways of doing things and having a debate about them is useful and informative. I wish more people would contradict me and point out different or better ways.
So if anyone out there is ruminating about some stupid advice I gave and how I should have said something different instead, please share. We’re here to learn from each other.
