Using families can be very useful.  If you are a migrated practice from HPM or Health One and you had families set up in the old system, they do migrate to Socrates.
The family function is found in one of the tabs in patient details, so either click on the name when the file is open or open the chart via patient maintenance.

There is lots you can do in here with families.

Sometimes, you might want to see if a patient has a family set up, it’s a bit of a journey to go all the way to the family tab to find out but there is another way you can find out using the patient search selector.
Find the patient in the selector and highlight the patient, then click on the family details tab.

If the patient is not in a family, then there is no information here but if they are in a family you can see the details confirmed here and you can open any family members chart from here.

A nice time saver if this is something you need to do sometimes.

Hi Michael -and everyone:

You probably saw this:

  • From 1st March 2024, doctors will be able to issue prescriptions with a legal validity of up to 12 months, where clinically appropriate to do so and bar where the medicinal product concerned is a controlled drug specified in Schedule 2, 3 or 4 to the Misuse of Drugs Regulations 2017 (S.I. No. 173 of 2017).

  • From 1st September 2024, pharmacists will be able to extend a six month prescription for a further six months. This will apply to six month prescriptions issued from today's date.

  • The ability for pharmacists to extend prescriptions does not apply to prescriptions of any other duration i.e. it is for six month prescriptions only.

  • If you do not wish a prescription to be extended by the pharmacist, you may write "do not extend" on the prescription.

Is it possible to get a shortcut in the way  ' 1    O ' writes for  1 od that would allow us to autotext

6X = please do not extend beyond 6 months

Keith

Hi All,
Thanks Keith. There are pros to this for us even though we lose the 6m script fee.
This came up at CLT. It could be a very good way for reduced unnecessary calls/ contact. Where suitable the doctor issues 12 month script and then asks patient to make appointment for 12 month review when leaving. Cuts out contact from patient for repeat script and also the contact to make the appointment. Most patients need to be seen annually at least. It can be tied in with prevention programme visits when patient on suitable meds. CDM visits probs my makes sense to do 6m script still.
There are of course some meds that are not suitable for 12m scripts and also some patients we may not want to give 12m script to. Gerry Mansfield is working on a protocol that might be workable in practice.
Kind regards
Jean

That's all true, there are definitely pros and cons. The point I was making (which I had  not seen before) was that we can instruct the pharmacist Not to extend the cert. A  bit like ' no subs'.

Hi Jean
That's all true, there are definitely pros and cons. The point I was making (which I had  not seen before) was that we can instruct the pharmacist Not to extend the cert. A  bit like ' no subs'.

Hi All,
Thanks Keith.
Jean

Hi Michael –and everyone:

You probably saw this:

·        From 1st March 2024, doctors will be able to issue prescriptions with a legal validity of up to 12 months, where clinically appropriate to do so and bar where the medicinal product concerned is a controlled drug specified in Schedule 2, 3 or 4 to the Misuse of Drugs Regulations 2017 (S.I. No. 173 of 2017).

·        From 1st September 2024, pharmacists will be able to extend a six month prescription for a further six months. This will apply to six month prescriptions issued from today’s date.

·        The ability for pharmacists to extend prescriptions does not apply to prescriptions of any other duration i.e. it is for six month prescriptions only.

·        If you do not wish a prescription to be extended by the pharmacist, you may write “do not extend” on the prescription.

Is it possible to get a shortcut in the way  ‘ 1    O ‘ writes for  1 od that would allow us to autotext

6X = please do not extend beyond 6 months

Keith

Subject: Centric GP Forum ICT Tip 157 – Socrates – Find family details quickly.

Using families can be very useful.  If you are a migrated practice from HPM or Health One and you had families set up in the old system, they do migrate to Socrates.

The family function is found in one of the tabs in patient details, so either click on the name when the file is open or open the chart via patient maintenance.
